PEMANFAATAN KEMBALI LIMBAH PELEPAH KELAPA SAWIT MENJADI PUPUK KOMPOS DI DESA BABULU LAUT

Abstract

Kelapa sawit banyak digunakan sebagai berbagai macam produk dengan nilai guna tinggi. Pemanfaatan kelapa sawit sebagai sumber energi dapat menghasilkan limbah berupa pelepah kelapa sawit. Kelapa sawit yang terletak di Desa Babulu Laut Penajam, Kalimantan Timur, merupakan salah satu contoh hasil limbah pelepah yang tidak dimanfaatkan. Program ini bertujuan untuk memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat di desa tentang pengolahan limbah pelepah sawit menjadi kompos agar limbah tersebut dapat dimanfaatkan secara maksimal dan dibantu oleh mahasiswa Institut Teknologi Kalimantan dalam program Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN).  Metode yang digunakan dalam pengomposan limbah pelepah sawit menggunakan berbagai pengurai EM4 dan kotoran sapi serta campurannya. Penyuluhan terkait limbah pelepah sawit dilakukan secara praktis agar masyarakat dapat melihat dan memahami dengan baik proses pembuatannya menjadi suatu produk. Hasil dari ketiga variasi dekomposer ditemukan bahwa EM4 dan kotoran sapi dapat diaplikasikan, sedangkan dekomposer campuran tidak sesuai untuk aplikasi karena jamur. Dengan hasil ini, warga dapat membuat kompos, baik untuk digunakan sendiri, pengelolaan sampah atau industri rumah tangga. Dengan dilaksanakannya KKN ini mendukung masyarakat sekitar dalam mengatasi permasalahan limbah pelepah sawit menjadi kompos.

Oil palm is widely used as a variety of high value products. The use of oil palm as an energy source can produce waste such asoil palm fronds. Oil palm located in Babulu Laut Penajam Village, East Kalimantan, is one example of the result of unutilized frond waste. This program aims to provide education to the community in the village about processing palm oil frond waste into compost so that the waste can be utilized optimally and assisted by students from the Kalimantan Institute of Technology in the program of Field of Real Work Lecture Program (KKN). The method used in composting palm frond waste uses a variety of decomposers ofEM4 and cow dungand mixed of them. Counseling related to palm frond waste is carried out by practically so that people can see and understand well the process of making it into a product. The results of the three variations of decomposers found that EM4 and cow dung can be applied, while with mixed decomposers, were not suitable for application due to fungi.By this result, , local residents can fabricate the compost, either for their own use, waste management or home industry. By the implementation of this Community Service Program, it supports local communities in overcoming the problem of waste oil palm fronds into compost.
