THE SAFELY PROCESS OF REPLACING THE DRIFT ELIMINATOR COOLING TOWER AT PT PUSRI PALEMBANG USING AMERICAN CRAWLER CRANE CAPACITY 100 TONS

Abstract

PT Pupuk Sriwidjaja (Pusri) Palembang is the oldest fertilizer factory in Indonesia, currently PT Pusri has several factories that still operational, namely : P-IB Plant (Ammonia, Urea, Utilities),  P-IIB Plant (Ammonia, Urea, Utilities), P-III Plant (Ammonia, Urea, Utilities), P-IV Plant (Ammonia, Urea, Utilities), P-V Plant (NPK 1,2 & 3) and P-VI plant (Fertilizer Bagging & Dock). PT Pusri uses several cooling systems, namely the Cooling Tower, as for its function to remove heat from water by evaporating a small portion of the water circulated through the unit. As time goes by performance of the Cooling Tower has decreased, this is due to the part of the Cooling Tower, namely the Drift Eliminator, which is dirty and needs to be replaced. This study discusses the process of replacing the Drift Eliminator safely using a 100-ton capacity American Crawler Crane. Crawler crane is one type of crane that can move in a location using a crawler as wheels for moving. The replacement of the drift eliminator is to keep the performance of the Cooling Tower at its maximum. The total load weight (Wt) borne by the American crawler crane was 1690 kg or 1,69 tons and the total maximum allowable load (Wm) using the American crawler crane was 18089 kg or 18,09 tons with a crane radius of 40 Feet (12,2 m), a boom length of 100 Feet (30.48 m) and a boom angle of 60 degrees. Replacement of the drift eliminator can be done “safely” as the total load weight (Wt) is less than the maximum allowable weight (Wm).
